Heartstopper and Mad Tsai

 Hi,

I'm back! This one is going to be a silly post nothing serious (posted late at night again πŸ˜‚). I was listening to Mad Tsai's ep ablum Homecoming and thought of this and had to write it down. I realized that practically the whole album can be related to Heartstopper. Then again it might be me just talking about Heartstopper so much it's now bleeding into my other interests but oh well. So this post is just gonna be me explaining my thoughts (spoilers obviously). Enjoy!

So the first song is Boy Bi. This one should be a little obvious whose song this is. This is definitely Nick Nelson's song. I mean the starting lyrics are "So do you like girls or do you like boys?/ Oh, um, I mean, uhh, yes?" That is practically Nick while he's trying to figure who he is. A lot of the lyrics go back to that theme of Nick not knowing who he is and who he likes. "Like, I'm watchin' a Disney movie and the couple gets it on/ But who should I look at, is it Shang or Mulan?" This literally happens in the show. Nick is watching Pirates of the Caribbean with his mom and it shows him looking between the two characters not knowing which one he should be looking at. "I'm just playin', I'm just sayin', I'd like to be clear/ I don't know what the hell is goin' on here" These lyrics gives me "I'm having a proper full on gay crisis" vibes. This song as a whole fully expresses Nick's confusion. Also the lyric "I'm perfectly complete-ete-ete-ete... (aah)" help add to the fact that Nick is okay with everything. Even though he's questioning and confused he knows that he doesn't regret anything and he enjoys being with Charlie. I definitely believe this is something Nick would blast in his car, pick Charlie up, forget what he was blasting and turn on the music, realize it get embarrassed by it and quickly turn it down but Charlie would just be staring in awe.

The next song in the ep is That Friend. This is Aled(Webtoon)/Issac(show). We don't know much about this character and he is treated as a side character. Adding into it there is 2 different names for him. This song is about feeling left out and being "that friend" in a friendship. "Never included in the conversation/ I'm the king of my plane of existence" He's not in a lot of the important conversations. His opinion in the show is also ignored at times when he doesn't go with the opinion someone wants at times. He is also used a bit of comic relief at times.  "A background character for all of my life" This also adds to my previous argument. "The one that hangs with the group/ That ain't close enough to anyone to have someone to talk to" This adds to the part of everyone is kinda in pairs in the group. Charlie and Nick, Tara and Darcy, and Elle and Tao. Aled/Issac for the most part doesn't have a pair. "That I'm listening, I've got feelings and I ain't very outspoken" Again this character doesn't talk much but he is there for a lot of it. I hope that we get to know this character's story more and he gets more of a permanent position in the group.

The third song in the ep is Stupid Games. This one is more tricky but I think it fits the beginning of Charlie and Nicks relationship in the pov of Charlie. "I think I kinda got a crush" This lyric shows it's in the beginning of the relationship. Charlie is just realizing his feelings. "'Cause I don't know if he's into guys/ Don't know if I'll ever be his type" Again early part. This also adds into the is he straight is he not that we get in the beginning. This also adds into the fact Nick is a "rugby lad" and Charlie is not super into sports."I wouldn't have to play these stupid games/ Like analyzing the way he talks/ Does he watch football or watch RuPaul?" I find these lyrics a little funny since Nick is into Rugby and these lyrics talk about football which are similar I think. This can also show Charlie overthinking things and analyzing Nick to figure out if he likes him back or not. "Do you wanna kiss me?" I'll just simply say the scene where Charlie is asking "would you kiss someone whose not a girl?" "would you kiss me?" More lyrics adding to Charlie figuring things out "But I can't help/ wanna be yours/ But I can't tell" "Tell me your favorite brand new song" Now the part that is tricky is the last verse. "I get it, you're straight/ My gaydar was broken" Now we know Nick and Charlie end up together so this could be Nick still dealing with the Ben situation. The whole verse follows the line of being turned down because the guy is straight so thats my best guess to have it fit Heartstopper.

Okay three more songs πŸ˜‚. The next one is Lover Boy. This one is 100% Tao and Elle. "I can be your dream boy/ I can be just what you need" Simply I can see Tao saying this. This song is just purely an innocent high school romance song which is what Tao and Elle are. "We're best friends, we don't gotta pretend" They have the friends to lovers trope like this song represents. They were besties that became more. "Gotta keep these iridescent weekends" Their movie nights in the show. "And we're dancing in your room" Tao's dance that he would do to mess with Elle in the show. This paragraph is way shorter but I'm not sure what else to say. They very much have a more simple friends to lovers relationship that is represented to the song.

2nd to last song! This one is Heartbreak Honeymoon. This one feels like it could be Charlie talking to Ben. "This song is for the boy who played me" Ben definitely did Charlie dirty. "A is for All your halfed Ass Apologies" This is more in the show where Ben tries to excuse the way he acts with being confused even though Nick never treats Charlie like that. "Couldn't I C that I would be Catching you/ Cheating on me" Ben kissing the girl by the gate πŸ˜‘. "You're Mistaken if you think you can Manipulate Me/ One more time" This is when Charlie finally sicks up for himself and drops Ben. Ben was also very manipulative telling him no one would like him and that Charlie should be happy that Ben is even showing an interest. "I'm Restarting with someone new" Charlie getting with Nick. This song is very bitter which I imagine Charlie would be. I'm finding it kinda funny cause the paragraphs are getting smaller and it's probably a sign I should go to sleep but I've already decided that I was gonna see this post through!

The final song! Killer Queen. This is another hard one but I think it's also fun because of that. I think this could apply to one of the girls who we don't know their past as much. This song makes me think of either Tara, Elle or Nick's mom. Thats a wide range but I'll explain. First of Tara and Elle. These both kinda go together. "There was this girl who was broken by the world/ 'Cause every day at school they'd push and shove her, oh" We know that both of them were bullied and it took a toll on them. Because of this I feel they can both fit the song. The song is another bitter revenge song. I do lean more towards Tara because of the lyrics "Every boy and girl she dates disappears without a trace" Now we know Tara is a lesbian but Nick and her kissed at a party once when they were younger so she can hit both boys and girls for the song. We don't know enough about Elle to say if she fits it or not. Now for Nick's mom. This is less serious and more of a funny thought for her backstory. Now with the last lyrics she could fit this. When Nick comes out as bisexual to her she makes a comment about knowing what it is. She could just be knowledgeable about this topic but it's more fun to think it's something else. Maybe she was bullied in high school leading her to want to get revenge and turn on everyone. Maybe she fits the dating people and slowly taking everyone out. Actually now that I think about it Charlie's sister can also fit this because her character is also very mysterious and we don't know much about her either. I think this song doesn't fit the show as much as the others but I think it's fun to pretend it does and give a character a villain origin story or a dark backstory.

Now thats it for the ep. Either that all makes sense or I'm sleep deprived, and too attached to Heartstopper and just see it in everything. I'm gonna pretend it all makes sense. Also this was another long one sorry!
